Job Summary

The University of Michigan, Department of Surgery, Section of Thoracic Surgery is seeking an academic general thoracic surgeon at the Clinical Assistant Professor level to join an established group of general thoracic surgeons.  He/she/they will have the primary responsibility of developing a broad based clinical and academic practice in general thoracic surgery at Michigan Medicine. The faculty member will be expected to to participate in medical education of learners including medical students, house officers and fellows, as well as provide patient care.

Required Qualifications*

The preferred candidate will have an MD/DO and will have completed an ACGME-accredited thoracic surgery residency with a concentration in general thoracic surgery and hold or have the ability to obtain the appropriate medical licensure in the state of Michigan. The candidate should be proficient in all such aspects of thoracic surgery, inclusive of care for patients with malignant and non-malignant diseases of the lungs, esophagus, pleura, diaphragm and mediastinum. Experience is desired in lung transplantation and its aspects of care, as well as with advanced airway and esophageal endoscopy. Expertise in both minimal access as well as open surgical techniques is required. The candidate must possess team building, program development and mentorship abilities.  

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
