Summary:
Performs polysomnography procedures and related administrative duties as ordered by the medical staff.
Responsibilities:
1. Verifies the existence of an appropriate history and/or examination data in preparation for procedure. (Will not perform tasks independently until graduation from an RT or Polysomnography Associate's degree program).
2. When determined competent, performs all polysomnography tests/procedures/scoring approved for the position, and as detailed in the position’s Skills Checklist to include, but not limited to: Polysomnography procedures, Scores sleep studies.
3. Communicates with patients or their representatives.
4. Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate care based on the age of the patients served.
5. Communicates with team members, physicians and other care providers regarding diagnostic testing.
6. Provides oversight and guidance to students and new staff with regard to polysomnograms.
7. Sets up and/or maintains equipment and work areas.
8. Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
9. Takes an active role in self-development.
10. Other duties and responsibilities as needed.

Education Requirements:
• Associate’s in Science, Polysomnography or Respiratory Therapy within 6 months of hire.
• Completion of formal training program in neuroelectrodiagnostics, respiratory therapy or sleep diagnostics prior to hire.
Licensure/Certifications:
• Registered Polysomnography Technologist (RPSGT). Registered with the Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologists within 9 months of hire.
• BCLS certification.
Professional Experience Requirements:
• 6 months experience in Healthcare/Medical Acute Care.
• Previous experience in Respiratory Care, EEG, or Polysomnography preferred.
