Summary

This position is located in the Red Lake Service Unit in the Bemidji Area Indian Health Service. The bed capacity is 23 beds. Inpatient services include routine medical acute care and end of life care. Outpatient services include a 24-hour emergency room, an urgent care department, and an outpatient clinic. The purpose of this position is to provide direct and comprehensive primary, preventive and therapeutic medical care to individuals across the lifespan.

Duties

  • Provides diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive health services to patients.
  • Makes medical decisions, orders diagnostic tests and forms treatment plans.
  • Collect, organize and record health treatment plans, health history and physicals in a medical record.
  • Attends training sessions and performs quality improvement activities such as peer review.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.

The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

Note:

Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.

All applicants must meet the following basic requirements for all grade levels:
  • Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the at the time the degree was obtained.
  • Successful completion of the (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for (CME) and re-certification.

Licensure
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Basic Requirements for the GS-13 Grade Level
A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the GS-12 Grade Level and completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program is required. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Making diagnosis and decisions concerning medical needs to patients. Formulating and implementing plan of care which may involve various treatment modalities, prescribing medications, and consultation with other health care providers. Consulting with other professionals regarding health care issues and complex medical problems.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
