Use your advanced optical engineering skills to help Honeywell deliver innovative solutions across a variety of optical design opportunities. You will be empowered to think BIG and challenge yourself to understand more than just one aspect of the optical engineering discipline. You will work alongside some of the world's most talented engineers. You will apply research of complex optical systems to achieve desired optical specifications You will contribute to the development of Honeywell's state-of-the-art optical instruments for military, space, and commercial applications, including Earth observation, atmospheric monitoring, space situational awareness, space science, and optical communications.. You will take a lead role as part of a multidisciplined team, in designing, testing, and validating products from prototype to market. Examples of products include a broad spectrum of optical and opto-mechanical elements, ranging from mirrors, lenses, and mounts; critical subsystems such as fore optics and detector assemblies; and up to full instruments incorporating electronics and mechanisms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bid and proposal evaluation and writing
  • Estimating labor and timelines
  • Requirements management and compliance evaluation
  • Optical Simulation and Design
  • Optical parts packaging and drawing development
  • Performance specification review and development
  • Cooperating with and interacting with external vendors
  • Customer site visits
  • Leading technical proposals and managing proposal schedules and budgets

US Citizen Requirement:

Must be a US Citizen due to contractual requirements.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant design and test experience.
  • Good written communication skills
  • Business market requires that candidates must be eligible for TS/SCI clearance.

WE VALUE

  • Ability to convey subtle or complex messages clearly, as appropriate for the topic and audience
  • Knowledge of optical communications: modulation schemes, test methods, free-space optical communications, systems-level integration
  • Knowledge of optical communications concept of operations (ConOps) and current SDA/ESTOL standards, able to deliver full solutions to customers
  • Experience with US space and defense contractors
  • Experience costing and writing proposals
  • Experience evaluating RFP, RFI
  • Ability to consistently make timely decisions even in the face of complexity, balancing systematic analysis with decisiveness
  • Experience with complete engineering lifecycle (Design to volume production)
  • Optical simulation experience (Zemax, Code-V, Light Tools, Trace Pro & other industry std. tools)
  • Parametric mechanical modeling experience (Pro-Engineer, CREO and Solidworks)
  • Experience with Matlab
  • Individuals who are self-motivated and able to work with little supervision, who consistently take the initiative to get things done, and are willing to do things before being asked by others or forced to by events.
  • Ability to lead a Project, including application of budgetary controls and reporting. Program Management experience is a plus.
