Experienced Clinical Nurse - Days - Duke University Hospital

Duke University Health System- Duke University Hospital seeks to hire an experienced Registered Nurse who will embrace our mission of Advancing Health Together.

Department Profile:
The Duke Birthing Center at Duke University Hospital is active in delivering exemplary care for each patient to ensure an excellent patient experience, every time.This position is for the postpartum section of the Duke Birthing Center, serving primarily high risk families. The facilities were recently renovated with 24 designated postpartum beds. This unit provides care for more than 3500 families each year, supporting rooming in accommodations. This unit was recently recognized as the # 1 Maternity Care Center in North Carolina!

Ideal candidates will be able to function as a part of a large multidisciplinary team in a shared governance environment, and have a passion for family centered care. Multiple opportunities here for growth and development through committee work and education!

Job Summary:

The High-Risk Obstetric Nurse Navigator will play a crucial role in providing specialized care and support to pregnant women with high-risk conditions, particularly focusing on placenta accreta spectrum disorders and maternal cardiac disorders. This position involves coordinating comprehensive care plans, educating patients and their families, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal outcomes.

Work Hours & Shifts: Full Time/ 40 hours weekly - Day shift

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care Coordination:Develop and implement individualized care plans for patients with placenta accreta and maternal cardiac disorders.
  • Education and Support:Provide education and emotional support to patients and their families, helping them understand their conditions and treatment options.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration:Work closely with obstetricians, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
  • Monitoring and Follow-Up:Monitor patients' progress, manage complications, and ensure timely follow-up appointments and interventions.
  • Advocacy:Advocate for patients' needs and preferences, ensuring they receive the highest standard of care.
  • Documentation:Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and hospital standards.

Minimum Education, and Experience Required:

* Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required. At a manager's discretion, employees with 6 months of experience who are exceptional performers may be eligible for this level. CN Is are eligible for promotion to CN II by meeting criteria set forth by the DUHS Vizient Nurse Residency Program within 12 months of hire. Promotions can occur at 12 months of hire, but no later than 18 months of hire.

* Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program. Exception: Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11, 2021 without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within five years of their start date. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.

Minimum Licensure, Certification or Registration Required:

* Current registration with North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse OR current compact RN licensure to practice in the state of North Carolina required.

* BLS (or higher) certification required.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in obstetric nursing, with a focus on high-risk pregnancies.

* Professional specialty certification (preferred).

* Strong clinical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, and proficiency in patient education and advocacy.
