A Brief Overview
This role is responsible for providing a variety of animal husbandry services as assigned and serves as subject matter expert providing consult and support to team members. This position will maintain animal research facility ancillary support spaces (bedding machine, RO water system, feed and bedding storage, cleaning and disinfection equipment and supplies), and provides logistical support for Department of Veterinary Resources [DVR] vivaria. Assist Technical Operations Supervisor with scheduling and execution of described maintenance and other projects as it pertains to maintaining cleanliness of the DVR vivaria. This role will also be familiar with the day-to-day activities, employees, and concerns within the facilities.
What you will do
- Performs all of the Animal Logistical Support Technician job functions.
- Technical Support:
- 1) Assists management, CHOP support personnel, and service vendors with equipment maintenance and repair.
- 2) Work with management to establish, perform, and maintain a system to ensure equipment sanitation and validation intervals.
- 3) Provides subject matter consultation and support to team members
- Animal Receipt:
- 1) Coordinating all aspects of animal receipt and housing across DVR operations, including USDA-covered species. Will receive, coordinate, and conduct animal transports across all DVR faciities. Will utilize designated census management software to ensure proper cage card handling and accurate per diem allocation for newly received and/or transported animals.
- 2) Will load, unload, and operate DVR transport vehicle. Will assist with vehicle maintenance and inspection.
- 3) Expected to perform all functions of the ACT Lead role and assist when assigned. This includes providing assistance with animal husbandry as assigned.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma / GED Required
- At least three (3) years of experience in an animal research facility, laboratory animal or zoo animal environment Required
- At least two (2) years of logistics experience Required
- At least one (1) year of leadership, management or supervisory experience Preferred
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to operate a company vehicle and/or be insured on a CHOP policy.
- Driver's License - Department of Motor Vehicles - within 12 months - Required
- Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) - American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) - - Preferred or
- Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) - American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) - - Preferred
