A Brief Overview
Dr. John studies metabolism in the setting of pediatric infections, in order to identify new anti-infective drug targets, understand drug resistance, and develop new diagnostics.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the lab of Dr. Audrey John as a research technician II. This position will work alongside scientists investigating changes in the human metabolome due to infectious diseases. The technician will be trained in the use of high-resolution gas chromatography mass spectrometry analysis and be expected to work on the analysis of breath, urine, and other sample types. There will also be opportunities to assist with data analysis and manuscript preparation.
Candidates who have experience with mass spectrometry and or other analytical chemistry techniques are encouraged to apply.
What you will do
- Operate complex, sensitive instruments and workflows.
- Perform laboratory processing procedures on a variety of human biological samples, including but not limited to breath, urine, saliva, and stool.
- Coordinate the procurement of various lab materials and supplies to support ongoing research activities.
- Ship and receive biological samples to/from external labs, adhering to all standard operating procedures.
- Assist in planning and optimizing research protocols and procedures.
- Suggest and implement improvements to enhance laboratory efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Prioritize tasks and work independently to meet deadlines
- Use high resolution gas chromatography mass spectrometry analysis
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED Required
- Bachelor's Degree in biology, chemistry or related field Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- At least one (1) year of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program (eg. Wistar, WPSI) and research laboratory experience Required
- 1 year or more of experience with analytical instruments (especially GC or MS) is strongly preferred.
