The Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design at Indiana University Bloomington is seeking applicants for a full time, non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor of Ceramics who will teach multiple levels of ceramics courses and with the potential of teaching foundations courses, to begin August 1, 2025. We seek candidates who can provide collegiate initiative in a team-based environment. A strong candidate will have demonstrated an ability to work successfully with students, faculty, administration and the community.

We invite applications from artist-educators who are committed to contemporary conceptual and technical approaches within the field of ceramics while honoring the medium’s rich history. The candidates’ research and expertise would ideally fall within the realm of sculpture as a part of ceramic practice. This could include object making, installation, social practice figurative, and/or digital or new media approaches. The candidate would complement and amplify the existing faculty, enhance the interdisciplinary curriculum, and engage both undergraduate and graduate programs. Applicants are sought whose portfolios reflect significant personal research within the School’s focus on Art, Architecture and Design, and whose teaching will address the broad ranging implications of this intersection in contemporary art.

Position Summary
We host a BA, BFA and widely recognized Ceramics MFA program. Responsibilities beyond teaching include but are not limited to participate in group and individual critiques, assist in maintaining the studio environment, provide service as needed by the area and school, and maintain and pursue professional and academic expertise. Studio space provided when available.

Position details

General Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching five courses during the academic year. (3/2 Or ⅔)
  • Maintaining professional and academic expertise.
  • Mentoring graduate student Associate Instructors and Assistants.
  • Assisting with Ceramics studio management when needed.
  • Providing service as needed by the area and school.
  • Engagement in campus-wide events when see fit · Continuing your own studio practice.

The candidate’s prior experiences should demonstrate values we cultivate in our students: curiosity, collaboration, and adaptability in an ever-changing global art community.
Basic Qualifications    
All qualified candidates must have an MFA, M.Arch, or equivalent terminal degree by the employment start date.

Additional Qualifications    
Preferred qualifications include three years of teaching experience beyond graduate study or equivalent industry experience.
