Full Job Description

Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) invites applications for a full-time (4 days a week 8:00am to 4:30pm) faculty position to serve in an administrative and clinical role as a Team Leader for the Pre-doctoral Patient Treatment Center in the Department of General Dentistry.

Duties and Responsibilities:
§ Serving as one of 8 Team leaders assigned to the School's (8) pre-doctoral Teams
§ Provide overall leadership and management of a pre-doctoral student Team involving student education, patient care and patient management, and practice management: maximize student clinical experiences and clinic productivity with an emphasis on time management, maximizing chair utilization, foster critical thinking, evidence-based dentistry, and concern for patients’ oral health and well-being to achieve competence as a novice dentist.
§ Supervise Comprehensive Patient Examinations and the Treatment Planning Clinic for new patients for the pre-doctoral teams and assign new patients appropriately (including management of beyond the scope patients). Equitably distribute assignment of patients within the team to create diverse and balanced compendium of dental experiences for students. Manage the orderly transfer of patients’ continuing care between student dentists.
§ Serve as a supervisor role to Team Administrator. Collaborate on a daily basis with the Team Administrator to support effective chair utilization, time, patient, and record management. The Team Leader with assistance of the Team Administrator will assign and/or transfer patients to students in the Team in order to provide adequate clinical experience to ensure clinical competency and on time graduation.
§ Collaborate and calibrate with other Team Leaders and be willing to assist another Team, as needed.
§ Collaborate, on a daily basis, with assigned clinical faculty to provide adequate supervision for clinical procedures.
§ Directly manage case reviews and intervene as needed in processes such as infection control, records management, radiation safety, unusual outcomes, and other quality assurance measures. Partner with stakeholders to manage exposure incidents and unusual occurrences.
§ Managing the Team’s patient pool and student patient assignments and monitoring patient treatment progress;
§ Clinical Supervision of students:
• Attending rounds at beginning of each clinic session
• Treatment planning
• Collaborating with General Supervising Faculty during every clinic session
• Ensuring that each session is proceeding smoothly
• Directly supervising students who require additional support
• Expediting patient care
§ Meeting with students to discuss treatment plans and CBCTs;
§ Meeting with students to review their cases and patient records;
§ Managing problems with patients, students, etc;
§ Mentoring and advising students as required;
§ Evaluating and contributing to outcomes assessment metrics for students;
§ Signing out graduating students from their competencies;
§ Serving as a professional role model for students, colleagues and patients;
§ Maintaining proficiency in all aspects of all digital technologies including but not limited to CAD/CAM technology (CEREC), CBCT review, digital implant planning, and surgical guide designing;
§ Coordinating and monitor referrals to different departments or primary care physician;
§ Participation in departmental meetings, lunch & learn meetings, and faculty development gatherings for the purpose of calibration and training;
§ Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Department or School.


Ability to:
§ Participate in various school events, including but not limited to Student dinners, Faculty Development Day, White Coat Ceremony, Graduation
Events, and Alumni meetings.
§ Communicate effectively with a diverse population of patients, students, staff, faculty
and administration.
§ Produce professional and concise reports and written correspondence.
§ Analyze financial reports and make appropriate recommendations
§ Work independently with minimal supervision.
§ Work effectively in a group setting.
§ Provide effective leadership, training, and supervision.
§ Maintain confidentiality of information.
§ Demonstrate professional judgment in all situations.
§ Effectively manage projects and deadlines.
Basic Qualifications:
Requirements:
- DDS/DMD degree (or equivalent)
- International applicants must present with a minimum of a 1-year post-graduate residency training from a U.S. accredited school
- Applicants must be eligible for full or limited dental licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- Experience in CAD/CAM and Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)

Preferred Qualifications:
- Board Certification
- Prior teaching experience
- Advanced training in restorative dentistry
- Training in CAD/CAM and Cone Beam Computed Tomography
