The NIH Clinical Center, Nursing Department (CCND), Oncology and Critical Care (OCC), is seeking GS 14 Supervisory Nurse (Nurse Manager). The Nurse Manager is designated as the first-line supervisor and is charged with the responsibility and accountability for the day-to-day operations of their assigned unit.
Duties
The positions are responsible for developing a strategic plan to assure the availability of outstanding nursing services for participants in clinical research studies. Conduct performance evaluations of staff. Manages resources, staffing and supplies. Requires skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision making. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical and clinical staff, institute stakeholders and research participants. BSN/MSN or MS in a related field preferred.

If you are selected for Supervisory Nurse (Nurse Manager) positions your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing, planning, directing, executing, and evaluating a broad program of nursing activities in administration, practice, education and research within the pediatric program of care.
- Developing and directing a program-based clinical management structure to assure continuity in clinical operations and research support.
- Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing administration and nursing practice for the pediatric clinical areas. Identifying short term and long-term program goals in conjunction with departmental objectives, organizational strategic plan and annual operating budget. Directing the development of policies. Advising nursing executive team and CC senior leadership on issues and trends and the implication for pediatric nursing operations.
- Continuously managing program performance to assure all research requirements and patient care needs are met. Demonstrating the synthesis of outcomes driven program performance at the unit, department, and organizational level. Monitoring and managing clinical quality, customer service, and assuring research support and operational efficiency are within budgetary requirements.

Qualifications
You qualify at the GS-14 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements:Degree information - A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. Note: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools;
AND
Licensure Requirement - Must have a current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States;
AND
NCLEX-RN - You must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) or you obtained licensure before the implementation of the NCLEX-RN. Individuals who have not passed the NCLEX-RN, but meet all other qualification requirements will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation of both their education and experience prior to final appointment;
Additional Qualifications
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Planning and managing care for patients in multiple clinical specialty areas; monitoring patients responses to clinical treatments and reporting potential adverse actions; managing clinical resources and support activities for a nursing program; developing the annual plan, goals, and operating budget for a nursing program; evaluating the effectiveness of a nursing program; training nursing staff in the administration of clinical programs.
