Job Summary
The Supervisor, Maintenance of Way will supervise and evaluate the work activities of various classifications including forepersons, maintenance crew members, equipment operators, track repairpersons and track inspection personnel, ensuring that safety, quality, and productivity standards are met.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Responsible for duties of the Superintendent as needed.
* Evaluate track and work conditions and prescribing and executing any remedial actions required to ensure safety of both customers and employees.
* Protect MBTA/MOW property and assets.
* Use MBTA track manual and computerized systems to prepare short and long-range work programs for the rail lines such as inspections, track rehabilitation, maintenance, and cleanup programs.
* Ensuring budgetary goals are met and that all work is performed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
* Prioritize and organize work schedules for day and night crews.
* Perform and document daily inspections of work performed, prepare tack inspection schedules on a yearly basis to determine and submit manpower, materials and equipment needs for track work programs.
* Diagnose track conditions and initiate proper remedial action.
* Prepare, monitor, and analyze various personnel and attendance related trends and reports.
* Participate in the recruitment, training, discipline and prometon of personnel.
* Responsible for storage and delivery of all stock and material as needed.
* Oversee all rail fabrication and pre-plate ties for MOW Department.
* Assist with day-to-day service contracts as needed.
* Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner.
* Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies and/or events as needed.
* Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreement (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti- Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies.
* Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees.
* This position will work in an office environment and in the field to inspect/observe projects or other infrastructure conditions, which require visits to stations, the right of way and other work sites.
* Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.
Supervision
* Supervise classifications which include: Foreperson(s), System Repairers, and Trackperson(s).Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
* A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution with the ability to comprehend, communicate and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc.
* Five (5) years of experience in rail/track repair, maintenance, design, and construction.
* One (1) year of experience in a supervisory capacity.
* Effective organizational and analytical skills.
* The ability to use Word, Excel, database, PeopleSoft, or Main Frame applications.
* The ability to pass: a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, background screenings and the MBTA's medical requirements including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screening.
* Have excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
* The ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience.
* Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
* Be available to work twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
* Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.
* A valid driver's license.
Preferred Experience and Skills
* A Bachelor's degree in Business, Civil Engineering, or related field from an accredited institution.Substitutions Include
