We are seeking a Sr Global Medical Affairs Leader (SrGMAL) supporting our Hematology Franchise to join us in the greater DC Metro area in Gaithersburg MD or other oncology hubs in Canada, Spain or UK! This person will report to Global Medical Head for Hematology. The SrGMAL will lead and develop the medical strategy and lifecycle management of our assets for Multiple Myeloma, Acute Leukemias and our Cell Therapy program in Hematology. This position will work closely with Oncology Business Unit (OBU) Medical peers to ensure delivery of an integrated strategy and indication medical plans, ultimately having full responsibility for AL/MM and CAR-T assets medical plan. Working in one of our key tumor franchises, we are looking for someone who will excel in medical plans execution, develop medical affairs capabilities for the medical of the future, bring value to the cross-functional collaborations and be motivated by working with high performing colleagues in an exciting team.
What You'll Do:
Working with other internal teams and colleagues and responsible for development and delivery of key elements of the global medical tactical plan, the key tasks of the SrGMAL include:
Manage multiple projects and tasks and works autonomously
Work together with Evidence Senior GMAL to deliver an Integrated Evidence Plan (IEP) including GMA-driven studies, External Sponsored Research (ESR) and RWE strategy
Collaborate with Global Medical Head and other SrGMALs using scientific, clinical and competitor insights to inform and deliver the medical plan
Partners with Evidence Sr GMAL to operationalize Expanded Access Program (EAP) strategy, if applicable
Serve as Medical Lead for Advisory boards including developing a strategic plan for ad boards and other key external experts (KEEs) engagements, shaping the agendas, and working collaboratively to ensure the right stakeholders are included in discussions
Co-Lead integrated Business Team (IBT) and Lead Medical Integrated Team for Acute Leukemia and Multiple Myeloma Assets, including Cell Therapy program, being accountable for evidence & confidence strategy
Represents GMA in Global Project Team and ensures GPT & IBT awareness of key external developments (e.g. competitors, data releases, congresses, social media) and articulates the implications to the assets/indications
Develop an external education plan including delivery of AstraZeneca-led Symposia and other scientific exchange meetings
Will manage and/or contribute to Global Medical Projects and be responsible for the assets/indications medical budget
Ensures that all medical and business activities are carried out in compliance with AZ standards, standard operating procedures and external regulations
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum 6+ years of senior/specialized experience within pharma/life sciences and/or medical experience (e.g. significant clinical/academic/medical affairs agency roles/organisations)
Advanced Scientific degree preferred (PhD, PharmD) or equivalent medical/scientific qualifications and/or significant industry and/or therapeutic experience
Experience and ability to lead and provide strategic leadership across functional working groups and teams within a complex matrix organisation
Strong stakeholder and communication skills with a strong situational Influencing style/ability
Experience and ability to influence strategically and persuade tactfully, to obtain desired outcomes while maintaining effective, positive organisational relationships
Expertise in product launches and/or mature brand development within Multiple Myeloma, Acute Leukemias and/or Cell Therapies in Hematology
Experience and strong ability to evaluate, interpret and present highly complex data for a series of studies (prospective and retrospective)
Strong experience of large market and/or global branding medical drugs within a pharmaceutical industry/oncology setting
Strong understanding of the overall drug development and cell therapies processes
Demonstratable track record of successfully developing and executing Medical Plans and strategies both in terms of evidence generation, scientific communications, and external expert engagements
Preferred Qualifications
MD (preferred)
Hematology medical experience and/or Cell Therapy experience
Preferred 2 years Global/Regional Medical leadership experience or 3+ years in a Senior Leadership Role in a large market
Country launch experience is preferred

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $245,280 - $367,921 . Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
