A Brief Overview
The Specialty Pharmacy Technician is responsible for compounding and preparing pharmaceuticals for specialty pharmacy and ambulatory patients under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in accordance with dispensing standard operating procedures and established guidelines. The individual is responsible to maintain the pharmacy and designated areas per CHOP policy and procedure and all regulatory and accrediting agency guidelines.
What you will do
- Responsible to provide accurate and timely compounding and preparation of pharmaceuticals for patients with specialty medication needs.
- Prepares new and refill prescriptions accurately, through the proper use of equipment and techniques, based on CHOP Policy for prescription entry and dispensing.
- Responsible to complete all pharmaceutical compounding/preparation and Quality Control documentation timely and in compliance with CHOP Policy and all regulatory guidelines.
- Monitors required areas for outdates, cleanliness, organization, and drug/supply stock levels.
- Maintains, purchases and organizes inventory supply in a manner which minimizes inventory storage cost, wastage, and stock-outs. Ensures inventory is rotated properly, stored in appropriate conditions and location with 100% accuracy.
- Prepares medication in a manner that minimizes cost due to wastage.
- Provides customer service when answering incoming patient calls, communicating with patients on urgent requests, and communicating with medical/nursing staff to obtain key information needed.
- Assists with coordinating and scheduling the prescription delivery process.
- Participates in departmental process improvement initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Specialty Pharmacy Management.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED - Required
- Technical Diploma Pharmacy Technician - Preferred
- Associate's Degree - Preferred
- Bachelor's Degree - Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Basic computer skills including use of Windows operating system and word processors.
- Calculation skills
