SIU Investigator - Senior Associate, Risk Management
Location Designation:Home Office, Hybrid (3 days per week)
This position is hybrid - Tuesday - Thursday in the New York Office and Monday and Friday work from home.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The SIU Investigator is a key contributor to New York Life's efforts to prevent, detect, and resolve fraudulent activity. This role is responsible for conducting detailed investigations into allegations of fraud or other dishonest acts involving employees, vendors, agents, clients, and other parties. The investigator will employ advanced investigative techniques, evaluate evidence for credibility, conduct interviews, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve timely and accurate outcomes. The ideal candidate should have a strong investigative background, exceptional analytical and communication skills, and expertise in fraud prevention, detection, and resolution. They must also demonstrate a familiarity with insurance laws, fraud and regulatory statutes, and company policies, products, and procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct detailed investigations into suspected fraud, ensuring all evidence is documented and analyzed thoroughly.
- Interview clients, claimants, witnesses, management, persons of interest and other involved parties to gather essential information and uncover critical facts.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, the Office of the General Counsel, Corporate Compliance, Agency Standards and other supporting functions to conduct and support investigations effectively.
- Refer cases to law enforcement, representatives of governmental entities (Departments of Insurance) and other investigative agencies as necessary.
- Examine transactions, records, and data to identify patterns, inconsistencies, and red flags. Develop investigative plans and strategies based on findings.
- Conducting internal and external database searches.
- Secure and document evidence for use in disciplinary actions, civil litigation, or criminal prosecutions.
- Document the SIU Case Management System with daily investigative activity and draft clear, concise, and detailed investigative reports to present findings and support decision-making.
- Conduct Company-wide fraud awareness training.
- Monitor industry trends and participate in fraud-related associations to remain informed about emerging schemes and techniques.
- Testify in court or administrative proceedings when required to support case outcomes.
- Conduct field investigations and interviews, sometimes on short notice, primarily within the domestic U.S.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree (Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Law, Accounting or related majors preferred).
- 5+years of relevant work experience (life insurance/SIU/law enforcement investigative experience preferred).
- Strong ability to conduct interviews, analyze evidence, and identify discrepancies or inconsistencies.
- Ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory and law enforcement agencies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present reports effectively.
- Certified Fraud Examiner ("CFE") or Certification in Insurance Fraud Investigations ("CIFI") preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other tools, databases, social media sites and investigative software.
- Willingness to travel domestically for fieldwork, including on short notice.
- Valid driver's license in good standing.

Pay Transparency
Salary Range:$77,500-$132,500
Overtime eligible:Exempt

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
