Job Summary

The Wang laboratory at the Life Sciences Institute is looking for an organized person with a background in molecular cloning and biology, protein engineering and sensor design and fluorescence imaging and analysis to join our research team. The Wang Lab employs state-of-the art research approaches to design molecular sensors and probes to study brain signaling. You will report directly to Dr. Wang.

Responsibilities*

Experimental job responsibilities will include:

  • Participate in multiple research projects on designing chemical-dependent protein switch to regulate peptide activity, with the ability to come up with research designs and troubleshoot
  • Perform directed evolution methods to improve the molecular tools
  • Perform cellular assays to characterize and validate the tools
  • Conduct immunofluorescence and confocal imaging

Non-Experimental job responsibilities will include:

  • Assist with writing manuscripts on the research work
  • Participating in group meeting presentations
  • Carry out some shared group responsibilities, including but not limited to ordering and preparing shared reagents

Required Qualifications*

  • High School Diploma or Associate's degree
  • Minimum six months experience in basic molecular cloning, including designing DNA constructs, primers, DNA electrophoresis, DNA gel purification, Gibson cloning reaction, bacterial transformation, bacterial culture, DNA miniprep.
  • Minimum six months prior laboratory experience in yeast cell directed evolution and flow cytometry, mammalian cell culture, fluorescence imaging, concentrated AAV virus preparation

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, molecular biology or related chemical biology majors (e.g. cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry)
  • Minimum six months experience in plate reader experiments
  • Previous experience assisting with writing research manuscripts
