Full-time faculty members are professional educators responsible for providing a world-class learner experience for Central Arizona College students. Faculty members perform instruction-related and other duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, vision, mission, policies, and procedures of the College.
- Teach all levels of English composition (developmental English and first-year composition) and other reading, writing and literature courses per college workload policy (15 credits per semester) at the various college campuses across the district in a variety of potential modalities (e.g., face-to-face, online, hybrid, and live stream online) and schedules (e.g., 16-week, 8-week, and late-start classes). Evenings and weekends may be required.
- Develop instructional materials and present them through lectures, workshops, and/or other learning venues, using a variety of effective teaching and learning techniques. Prepare syllabi and course calendars/schedules.
- Employ a variety of assessment tools; evaluate, grade, and comment on student work to facilitate and ensure student progress in the course. Assess curriculum for its effectiveness in meeting student learning outcomes.
- Demonstrate and maintain effective communication with students using a variety of tools (e.g., e-mail, online discussions, virtual chats in Blackboard, instant messaging, phone, and/or face-to-face consultations) to provide frequent feedback.
- Establish and maintain office hours per college policy. Maintain records of student attendance, progress, and performance; complete and return required reports to the appropriate office by the established due date.
- Propose and develop new courses, curricula, programs, instructional materials, and evaluation tools necessary to meet the needs of the students and community.
- Assist in the recruitment and retention of students, primarily in the instructional setting, through the development and implementation of effective teaching and learning strategies.
- Participate in professional development for continuous improvement and innovation in teaching and learning.
- Engage through committees, task forces, and various programs in supporting students and the department, division, and college.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Rhetoric/Composition, English, or Writing OR a related field with 18 graduate credits in one of the above fields from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualified to teach Reading with a Master's degree related to English with either 18 graduate credits in Reading, a combination of 24 credits of graduate and upper-division undergraduate credits in Reading from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, or a K-12 Reading Specialist Endorsement.

- Teaching and remaining current (with current trends, research, and pedagogy) in a variety of college-level and basic-level composition courses.
- Teaching and developing quality college-level courses in a variety of modalities, including online and hybrid.
- Teaching at the community college level.
- Communicating and collaborating with a diverse population of students (low-income, first-generation, second-language learners), faculty, and staff.

This is a pension system that requires mandatory contributions from the employee with a matching contribution from the employer. The 24-25 fiscal year contribution rate is 12.27%.
