Full Job Description
Central Arizona College, a diverse and innovative institution, is located in Pinal County, Arizona, a rapidly expanding business and residential community with a student population in excess of 6,000 on five major campuses and several emerging sites.  Less than one hour from the Phoenix metro area, faculty, staff, and students enjoy access to the arts, sports, recreation, and cultural history in the inviting Southwest climate. Faculty may teach at multiple sites, via distance learning (on-line, etc.) and traditional classroom instruction, possibly evenings and weekends.

JOB SUMMARY: 
To provide a quality education for Central Arizona College students. Perform instruction-related and other duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, vision, mission, policies, and procedures of the college. This position will be required to teach at multiple campuses.

  • Teach Art Appreciation, Two Dimensional Design, Drawing I, Intermediate Drawing, Color Theory, Painting I, Painting II, Life Drawing, Watercolor Painting, Intermediate Painting, Portrait Drawing, Art History I, Art History II, 
  • In accordance with the college workload policy and in a variety of potential modalities (e.g., face-to-face, online, hybrid) on any campus, site or center as dictated by the needs of students.
  • Provide and present information, content, and context through lecture, laboratory, recitation, seminars and/or other learning venues utilizing a variety of teaching/learning styles as appropriate to the course content.
  • Employ a variety of assessment tools; evaluates grades and comments on student work in order to facilitate and ensure student progress throughout the course.  Communicate with students as appropriate.  This may include email, online discussions, virtual chats within Blackboard, instant messaging (IM), telephone and/or face-to-face consultations to provide frequent feedback.
  • Establish and maintain office hours per college policy.  Maintain records of student progress and performance; completes and returns required reports to the appropriate office by established due date. Develop, prepare and evaluate instructional materials. Write and develop syllabi and course calendars.
  • Review and update course outlines, text selection and syllabi in cooperation with other faculty and appropriate district academic chair or program director.  Propose and develop new courses, curriculum, programs, instructional materials, and evaluation tools as necessary to meet the needs of the students and community.
  • Assist in recruitment and retention of students through the development and implementation of teaching and learning strategies primarily in the instructional setting.
  • Cultivate development of instructional programs and knowledge of trends, pedagogy, andragogy, and new technologies.


The ideal candidates will have an MA or MFA in in Studio Art (Painting, Drawing, etc.) or a Master’s degree in a related field with either 15 graduate credits or a combination of 24 credits of graduate and upper division undergraduate credits in field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
Background Verification:  As a condition of employment, all candidates accepting an offer of employment for a full-time, part- time, temporary, student worker, or volunteer position, will be required to undergo a Background Verification.  Employment with Central Arizona College is contingent upon the successful completion of the background verification.  The level the background verification for this position is: Standard level.

All applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older to be considered for this position.




  • Experience in creating and evaluating exhibition work.
  • Technical skills in a variety of Painting and Drawing techniques.
  • Experience managing a Painting/Drawing studio/classroom including, but not limited to safety issues, maintaining equipment, overseeing figure model bookings, ordering supplies, etc.
  • Experience teaching Painting and Drawing courses at the college or university level.
  • Experience using a learning management system (LMS).
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Knowledge about or experience working with students who are underrepresented in higher academia, with the goal of reducing equity gaps.
  • Teaching experience that reflects innovative pedagogy, including active learning and culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Experience with the development and teaching of distance education classes.

Important Notice: As a condition of employment, all full time Central Arizona College employee’s automatically become members of the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). This is a pension system that requires mandatory contributions from the employee with a matching contribution from the employer.  The 24-25 fiscal year contribution rate is 12.27%.  Please note this rate is subject to change on a fiscal year basis. Membership to ASRS is a condition of employment and is not optional unless you are at least 65 years of age and meet the opt out eligibility requirements, or are a retiree from ASRS .
