Do you have experience helping utilities with programs for grid-interactive efficient buildings? Are you passionate about supporting utilities’ customer energy program portfolio transformation to integrate new and existing technologies for a flexible, responsive grid? Can you help utilities develop pilots or emerging technology demonstration projects?
We’re looking for a client-facing technical subject-matter expert with experience in providing actionable recommendations to utilities. Someone who can make complex analysis actionable and clear. We expect this person to act as an industry-facing expert on how utilities can solve problems related to grid-interactivity, load flexibility, and emerging technologies. We’d like you to jump in on day one to support junior researchers, solve real-world problems for our utility clients through written reports and live presentations, and lead technology-focused client-facing projects. If you have deep knowledge of the utility industry, passion for emerging end-use technologies, and excellent analytical and communication skills, we’d love to talk with you!
The product strategist serves as the business domain expert and has responsibility for setting the direction and manages the entire product lifecycle for E Source customer energy solutions research services. To be successful in this role, you’ll need to be the face of ESource’s Technology Assessment and Distributed Energy Resources Service offerings by aligning our products and content to meet the needs of our utility clients. This is a unique opportunity to be at the center of a major energy industry transformation to help utilities identify and adopt cutting-edge, end-use technologies into their portfolio.

What you’ll do

Serve as our in-house expert on emerging electric and gas grid-interactive technologies, energy storage, and incorporating new technologies into utility programs

Contribute to the team’s planned content and unplanned work by serving as a subject matter expert in writing , presenting content and responding to on-demand research requests.

Create clear, concise, data-driven, and action-oriented content for topically focused reports, articles, technical briefs, and webinars.

Mentor and train junior researchers on the utility market needs, how utilities are changing, and new and emerging end-use technologies to address these needs

Set the annual research agenda and maintain the priorities for agile product delivery in a matrixed environment.

Implement measures that improve product health using continuous improvement principles and key performance indicators (KPIs) to support product quality, user satisfaction, and alignment with business goals.

Understand macro and micro industry trends and their impact on the product(s) you oversee.

Represent client needs in the creation of deliverables. Create and leverage user stories to clearly define user needs and expectations.

Lead or contribute to custom advisory projects for clients. At times, this might be up to 25% of your time.

Host online webinars and conduct client advisory calls that include presentations on various technology topics..

Visit clients at their offices and attend industry conferences as a speaker and product representative.

Deep expertise with the engineering principles behind demand response and energy efficiency end-use technologies; you’ll need to assess new and emerging technologies and should enjoy keeping up with the latest trends in areas such as grid-interactive efficient buildings, demand response, lighting, HVAC, plug loads, motors, industrial equipment, and smart home

Strategic, entrepreneurial mindset about how to make E Source offerings match clients’ needs.

Knowledge about how utilities plan, design, implement, and evaluate DSM, DER, energy storage, and electrification programs and an understanding of the key challenges they face in doing so..

Prior experience making recommendations to utilities about how certain measures can advance their customer energy solutions portfolios.

Experience with electric, gas, or water utility demand-side management and distributed energy resources programs.

The budgeted salary for this position is $90,000 to $130,000 USD + annual bonus up to 8%. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
This person can work 100% remote, but preference will be given for a hybrid schedule from of our physical office located in Boulder, Colorado;
