Location:
This position is hybrid with onsite requirements on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and preferred assigned to One Energy Plaza located in Jackson, MI, other Consumers Energy locations may be considered as well. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
We are looking for: Principal Rate Analyst
The Principal Rates Analyst oversees, monitors, reviews, and evaluates laws and regulations that impact the utilities business practices and regulatory filings. The incumbent will develop highly complex analysis and performs related studies and models. Responsible for leading, developing and maintaining an analysis of utility regulatory filings for both gas and electric utilities. The Principal Rate Analyst will review highly complex utility filings with public utility commissions.
The knowledge and skills involved with this position include but are not limited to:
- Demonstrated ability to summarize legal documents
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Knowledge of accounting and finance principles
- Strong demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated experience in Excel and PowerPoint
- Demonstrated experience with strong skills in MS Word
- Ability to coach and mentor junior analysts
- Ability to compile, manage and utilize large data sets in Excel and other data management software and systems

- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Political Science, Law or Engineering with a minimum of seven (7) years' experience creating executive level PowerPoint and other communications, developing levelized cost, cost benefit and other investment analyses, drafting briefs, managing documentation, etc.
- [OR] Associate degree in Finance, Accounting, Political Science, Law or Engineering with a minimum of nine (9) years' experience creating executive level PowerPoint and other communications, developing levelized cost, cost benefit and other investment analyses, drafting briefs, managing documentation, etc.
- [OR] High School Diploma with a minimum of eleven (11) years' experience creating executive level PowerPoint and other communications, developing levelized cost, cost benefit and other investment analyses, drafting briefs, managing documentation, etc.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Responsible for developing and supporting complex cost of service and rate design proposals for inclusion in rate filings. Will be responsible for providing expert testimony and serving as a rate case witness
- Responsible for monitoring public utility commissions for changes in regulatory policies and procedures that could impact the filing of utility rate cases covered and determining course of action
- May have responsibilities to drive internal customer communications based on proposed tariff changes
- Perform highly complex electric marginal and embedded cost of service studies with all required special studies
- Drive partnership with other departments to assure cross-functional alignment
- Oversee the creation of technical and cost analysis required to develop and gain approval for filings
- Update highly complex rate case exhibits and assisting in preparing testimony for filings
- Responsible capturing key metrics on highly complex utility and/or regulatory rate filings. This may include tracking docket numbers for the filings, authorizing return on equity, capital structure, requesting and approving rate base, and the changes in expected customer rates
- Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary
