Job Title: Microbiology Lab Technician
Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Microbiology Lab Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up microbiology tests based on standard test methods and protocols. This includes preparing new stock cultures, analyzing data, and reporting results in a timely manner. The role also involves maintaining the lab, equipment, and work area, and ensuring materials are properly used and discarded according to standard protocols, regulations, and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inventory Management: Manage inventory of lab materials and stock cultures of microorganisms. Prepare new stock cultures and contact suppliers for ordering when needed.
- Preparation: Prepare media, samples, and reagents used in testing.
- Equipment Maintenance: Prepare, sterilize, sanitize, calibrate, and validate equipment used for microbial testing.
- Testing: Conduct and track microbial efficacy tests against various bacteria, spores, fungi, and mycobacteria using standardized test methods.
- Bioburden and Liquid Chemistry Tests: Perform bioburden and liquid chemistry tests.
- Documentation: Provide detailed, accurate, and up-to-date records of test results. Maintain and update relevant documentation.
- Assays and Titrations: Conduct accurate assays and titrations using proper analytical methods.
- Investigations and Troubleshooting: Participate in required investigations and troubleshooting initiatives.
- Biohazardous Waste Disposal: Coordinate and handle the disposal of biohazardous waste.
- Additional Tasks: Assist with other projects and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: College Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or related fields, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in the Microbiology field.
- Skills:
- Ability to maintain a safe work environment and follow directions.
- Proficiency in aseptic technique and Good Documentation Practice (GDP).
- Strong attention to detail and precision in performing experiments.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and coordination skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
