Full Job Description
The Richmond Times-Dispatch, a Lee Enterprises company, is seeking a qualified Maintenance Technician possessing solid electrical experience to support our pressroom and mailroom operations. The ideal candidate will be charged with keeping all equipment and systems in good functioning condition, both electronically and mechanically.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
• Perform regular electronic, electrical and mechanical as well as facility/building maintenance and repairs
• Responsible for ordering and maintaining parts for repairs • Comply with all workplace standards and safety procedures including: Lockout /Tagout, OSHA requirements, and participate in safety improvement projects
• Maintain all necessary documentation and logs • Responsible for maintaining outside vendor and building supplier relationships • Will work with the production director and department managers to ensure proper functioning of all production equipment .
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Knowledgeable of building equipment including HVAC systems, boilers, chillers and plumbing systems
• Must be able to frequently perform the following: be able to lift up to 70 pounds, stand for prolonged periods, bend, crawl, stoop, twist, climb ladders, and work from lifts • Able to work effectively with people at all levels in the organization and produce in a team environment • Good interpersonal, oral and written communications skills
• Self-starter able to work with minimal supervision
• Able to work well under pressure • Demonstrate the ability to effectively implement change • Strong related technical ability and good understanding of production processes and equipment, this includes ability to read blue prints, schematics and math skills
• Excellent problem solving skills
• An understanding of and ability to use precision measuring equipment • Knowledge of OSHA regulations
• Knowledge of MS Word and Excel • Willing to expand skills with education and training classes
• Must be willing to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime, as directed, in order to minimize equipment downtime and varied work schedules to include evening and weekend shifts as required to cover absences The ideal candidate is familiar with and can perform all maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on: high-power drives (powered from 480 VAC, 3 phase sources converted to 600V) - 3 phase and single phase power distribution - control via PLC's and PC's - control devices (at 24 VDC) - networks of different types - gears, gear-boxes, drive shafts, and bearings - Electric motors - Variable Frequency Drives - Industrial machine controls i.e. solenoids, limit and proximity switches, various types of motors, control panels, motor controls, relays, counters, etc. Additionally, the candidate should have: experience in reading complex schematics; familiarity with European format is helpful - the ability to communicate technical detail, both verbally and in writing - experience with fiber optic communication loops is helpful - basic plumbing skills - basic facilities maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, journeyman electrical certification, and vocational trade school or equivalent
• Must have minimum of 4 years of electrical work experience
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs
• Strong electrical/electronic background
• Master electrician preferred, Associate degree in electronics and/or knowledge of Siemens electronic equipment a plus.
