Job Summary

The Department of Slavic Languages & Literatures at the University of Michigan invites applications for a 22.22% non-tenure track instructional position (Lecturer I) for the Fall 2024 term, October 21-December 9, 2024, taught Mondays, 1:00-3:00 PM in-person. The budget for this position is for Fall term, 2024 only. The candidate for the must be qualified and prepared to teach one undergraduate minicourse related to Cultural Heritage of Ukraine: Architecture and Arts.

Responsibilities*

Responsibilities will include teaching, in English, one minicourse (two-credits) in the field of Cultural Heritage of Ukraine: Architecture and Arts. This two-credit course will be offered on Mondays, 1:00-3:00 pm in-person for the second seven weeks of the Fall 2024 term. The instructor will be required to hold at least two office hours each week the course is offered and maintain regular contact with students through email/Canvas. This minicourse will be held in-person.

Required Qualifications*

Requirements for this position include a record of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level, and an interest in the development and application of innovative instructional methods. 

M.A., preferably PhD, in Urban Planning and/or Architecture in Ukraine. English fluency at the native or near native level is required.

Prior teaching at a North American institution of higher learning is highly preferred. Publications in Ukraine's cultural heritage, with a focus on architecture, art, and traditional Ukrainian crafts.
International teaching experience is a plus.

Applicants must be affiliated with or have been affiliated within the last five years, a college or university in Ukraine due to the source of funding for this position.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
