Job Description
EXAMPLES OF WORK**
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assigns routes, spot checks results, and does rereads if necessary. Reviews performance of meter readers.
Drives assigned crew members to exact reading locations and picks them up after readings completed.
Keeps daily records of meter routes and makes reports of all meter reading activities.
Assists in evaluating performance of probationary and permanent crew members.
Trains new employees in all field duties including safety procedures and operation of hand-held computers.
Attends work on continuous and regular basis.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Resolves customer complaints on meter reading problems or mistakes.
Resolves Billing department inquiries in the field, including re-reading meters, verifying data, and referring problems to appropriate departments.
Brings employee discipline problems to attention of supervisor.
Reads rural meter reading routes as well as walk-out routes in absence of subordinate meter reader.
Acts for the meter reader supervisor in his/her absence.
May be responsible for enforcing the drug policy, based on physical location and organizational structure.
May be required to supervise employees designated as performing "safety sensitive" functions, for purposes of the Drug Free Workplace Program, depending on job assignment and work location.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
SELECTION FACTORS
Thorough knowledge of electric, water, and gas meter reading practices.
Considerable knowledge of City and County geography.
Considerable knowledge of and ability to operate, maintain, and trouble shoot the ITRON meter reading system, including personal computer, hand-held meter reading devices, and related peripherals.
Knowledge of utilities' computerized Customer Billing and Information System.
Knowledge of principles of effective supervision.
Ability to plan and supervise work of others.
Ability to keep records and make reports.
Ability to work effectively with coworkers and the general public.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to maintain composure, effectiveness, and flexibility under extreme pressure.
