JOB SUMMARY
Using radiological (X-ray) imaging equipment and standards, the Imaging Technologist – Mammography prepares and performs procedures and tests used to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data under close to moderate supervision. By interviewing and preparing patients with an in-depth understanding of the equipment and procedures, this role ensures effective, safe use of this equipment and drives optimal care outcomes.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
Prepares and performs radiological (X-ray) imaging of the breast (mammography).
Reads and comprehends imaging order, engaging with physician when order is unclear, complex or warrants deeper review. Selects appropriate scanning protocols and imaging parameters using knowledge of human anatomy.
Interviews patients to understand risk factors that may warrant a more in-depth examination for safety.
Guides patients, some distressed, through their examination, applying subject matter expertise and cultural competency to explain the exam. Sets expectations and calms patients for effective imaging.
Uploads imaging results into Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). Records information into Electronic Medical Recordkeeping (EMR) system.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Graduate of an accredited program in Radiological Science
One (1) year of experience working in a clinical imaging role
Good understanding of human anatomy - can be established through education or experience
Experience reading and interpreting radiology orders
Experience working with a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred
Experience performing stereotactic guided breast biopsies and/or contrast enhanced mammography
Advanced certification in Mammography (ARRT-M) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
Experience working with EPIC EMR
