About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a proven and experienced economist to lead this team of professionals who are based in Charlotte and New York. As the Head of Economics, the successful candidate will be responsible for the output and results of the CIB Economics Department, including setting strategy, managing process and workflow, and driving the monetization of content. The successful candidate should demonstrate analytical rigor, thought leadership on relevant macro topics, a sound understanding of global markets, expert communication skill, and leadership. The position requires an ability to generate and communicate differentiated points of view to discerning clients, and comfort with going against the grain when relevant. The successful candidate needs to have a strong work ethic and a high sense of urgency in being responsive to the needs of many stakeholders. The position is very team-oriented and will require extensive interaction with a large team of economists and with the equity research department.

Wells Fargo Corporate & Investment Banking Economics Department

The Economics Department of the Wells Fargo Corporate & Investment Banking division performs rigorous and detailed analysis on the U.S. and major foreign economies, for the purpose of generating insightful content for distribution to Wells Fargo clients and internal stakeholders. Responsibilities of the Economics Department include production of thoughtful and differentiated published research, formulation of economic forecasts, and communication of opinions on the direction of the U.S. and global economies to institutional investors, corporate clients, and internal trading desks through live meetings, investor conferences, etc.


In this role, you will:

  • Provide vision and set strategy for the Economics Department
  • Lead a team that performs detailed and rigorous analysis of all relevant economic indicators and standard and alternative data
  • Draw timely and differentiated conclusions around economics and markets
  • Drive monetization of economics content by developing relationships with external clients
  • Collaborate with and support the equity research department
  • Maintain a strong media presence
  • Effectively allocate resources to optimize the external impact of the team
  • Drive a competitive and collegial culture and develop junior talent


Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of Economics experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 4+ years of management or leadership experience


Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to author well written reports that are comprehensible to laypeople
  • Strong public speaking skills with ability to communicate technical economic concepts to lay audiences
  • Knowledge and understanding of analytical methods used in statistical analysis, modeling, and forecasting
  • A master's degree or higher in Economics


Job Expectations:

  • Registration for FINRA Series 7, 63, 86 and 87 preferred
  • This position is subject to FINRA Background Screening Requirements, including successful completion and clearing of a background check. Internal transfers are subject to comply with 17 CFR 240.17f-2 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and FINRA Bylaws, Article III, Section 3, which states that Associated Persons should not be subject to statutory disqualification. Successful candidates must also meet ongoing regulatory requirements including additional screening and are required to report certain incidents.

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.

$249,500.00 - $518,300.00
