Start something special today. Northmarq was voted by Real Estate Forum as one of The Best Places to Work in Commercial Real Estate!    Northmarq is seeking a FHA Senior Underwriter in our Dallas office to join our Agency team, this role is responsible for independently and collaboratively underwriting loan transactions—depending on the loan program—while ensuring adherence to the Department of Housing & Urban Development's (HUD) Multifamily Accelerated Processing (MAP) and LEAN guidelines, as well as HUD/FHA regulations.   *This position is an in-office position, with an immediate start date.   Position Responsibilities:
  • Manage multiple loan transactions in accordance with Underwriter duties by loan program, including tracking progress of multiple parties and components, determining next steps, assigning tasks and managing to project deadlines.
  • Prepare narrative summaries independently for projects assigned in accordance with Underwriter duties.  Ensure narrative identifies key elements of the loan proposal and addresses any risks and mitigants to risks. 
  • Review and analyze all due diligence documentation as necessary depending on loan program/deal responsibilities. 
  • Review and assess mortgage credit information in order to confirm the creditworthiness of individual and corporate participants.  Recommend approval or mitigation of mortgage credit issues.
  • Perform site inspections when needed to verify accuracy of third party recommendations, determine suitability of value conclusions, and confirm satisfaction of HUD and corporate requirements.
  • Be either primary point of contact for internal and external parties for inquiries regarding project details, status, analysis, documentation and recommendations.  Manage communication of project participants to ensure project deadlines are met.  Verify revisions are made to appropriate documents and vetted to appropriate parties.
  • Develop loan sizing to conform to HUD/FHA guidelines, statutes and regulations.  Revise loan sizing proposals, as necessary throughout the process.
  • Research and provide interpretation of special issues for HUD/FHA statutory and regulatory compliance for underwriting and production management staff as well as borrowers and their development team members.
  • Advise participants regarding selection of appropriately experienced third party vendors.
  • Review and analyze all third party reports, assuring conformance with regulatory and corporate requirements for assigned deals.  Develop and compile comments, negotiate revisions and verify completion of changes requested.  Research unique issues including options for mitigation. Complete procedures for multiple report drafts to ensure a satisfactory final product. Monitor completion of reports to project deadlines.
  • Review monthly financial statements and rent roll through HUD processing to ensure conclusions remain consistent.  Take appropriate action if results negatively impact submission. 
  • Prepare and review the loan narrative, underwriting, and HUD forms for clarity, consistency, and accuracy for submission to loan committee and HUD/FHA. 
  • Assist Production in a limited manner with the preparation of draft documents for concept meetings with HUD for review by FHA Chief Underwriter.
  • Schedule and participate as needed on conference calls with borrower, third parties, and HUD. 
  • Discuss with the assigned Processor Analyst project specific details associated with the document preparation, review and collection of due diligence and third party report submissions.  Participate in discussions regarding assigned projects in order to assist in the analysis and conclusion of the underwriting and financing of the proposed project loan.
  • Ensure that the collection, organization, and tracking of all due diligence is being done with high level of focus on customer service.  When needed, act as a liaison with the Northmarq Production Analyst or Originator to receive appropriate documents.  Identify, facilitate, and recommend project actions to ensure efficient processing.    When documents are received, verify completeness and accuracy.
  • Prepare and monitor the project critical path, including providing updates and reminders of due diligence expiration and due dates. 
  • Attend FHA industry-wide meetings and Northmarq meetings as requested by the FHA Chief Underwriter.
What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Business, Finance, or Real Estate.
  • 3–5 years of CRE underwriting experience in finance or real estate, with a background in commercial lending or FHA preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel)
  • Strong understanding of commercial real estate loan terminology.
  • Excellent analytical and financial modeling skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to client service.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Effective problem-solving skills aligned with the role's responsibilities.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Positive and professional attitude in all situations.
