Equine Breeding Assistant/Vet Technician Job Posting
We are searching for highly motivated and passionate individuals to join our dynamic team across several key areas within our private equine practice. As a team member, you will play a vital role in assisting with the care and treatment of horses, supporting various procedures, and ensuring the health and well-being of our animals. Innovative Equine Services is a private equine practice that is committed to the highest standards by utilizing state of the art equipment. We are a multi-faceted facility that involves services in relation to embryo transfer, stallion services and advanced reproductive techniques in conjunction with other reproduction partner facilities. We have 9 breeding stallions that we service externally and also breed 25-30 mares yearly internally. The position being offered will allow the opportunity to experience and develop skill sets in a wide variety of services while being mentored by an experienced veterinarian. During the breeding/foaling season, this individual will assist in all aspects within our reproduction team. Our practice is responsible for managing 50-60 mares, performing approximately 25-30 embryo transfers and providing oocyte aspiration procedures as needed and when available by an outside equine reproduction partner. Additionally, we manage a caseload of 25-30 foals per year, which consists of foal watch, foaling out, and foal care.
Outside the breeding season the individual will have the opportunity to participate in all the other areas of practice offered at Innovative Equine Services. This time would relate to our sports medicine practice for our 35 show horses on the farm. This would provide opportunities to communicate with our training staff to meet the needs for optimal level of performance of the show horse string. This would include extensive exposure to lameness diagnostics, imaging and therapeutics. The other portion of this job involves experience with the many routine services provided by this practice. These include medical management for colic, wound/laceration care and wellness/preventative medicine. The individual applying for this position would be expected to participate in the on-call rotation at least 50% of the time. Initially, direct supervision will be provided with all of their cases. A greater degree of independent case management should be expected as the individual increases their knowledge and experience. The goal of this position is to provide the individual with the opportunity to expand their skills in a wide variety of fields within equine practice so that this individual can maintain a successful career in equine practice.
