GCSAA is seeking an environmental professional to provide overall direction and program management for our environmental and research programs. The position develops, manages and evaluates projects, programs, tools and education opportunities that will advance the missions of the GCSAA and GCSAA Foundation, primarily through the environmental and research programs of the GCSAA. Incumbent will provide recommendations and strategic vision on new and existing environmental initiatives for GCSAA and GCSAA Foundation to best position our members and industry today and into the future. The successful candidate will assist members with their inquiries pertaining to golf course management and work to increase facility and member engagement with Best Management Practices resulting in customization of unique facility manuals and on-the-ground implementation. The position provides expertise in support of advocacy efforts including meetings with regulators, government agencies and environmental groups.
Qualified candidates possess
- Possess an expert level of technical knowledge of environmental science, turfgrass science, sustainability, golf course/facility management, or fields similar in nature
- Excellent project management skills to be proficient at data collection, statistics, advanced research and analysis skills
- Ability to build consensus and generate collaborative thought among staff, peers and partners
- Knowledge of FIFRA, Clean Water Act and other federal and state environmental laws
- Understanding of federal and state environmental permitting
- Advanced knowledge of research and statistics; ability to comprehend and summarize highly technical and/or scientific information and data
- Advanced writing skills and solid verbal and interpersonal communications skills
- Ability to work independently, prioritize and manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven atmosphere
- Ability to conceptualize, plan and execute measurable programs and efforts within a very complex set of interests and industry perspectives
- Understanding of the game of golf/golf industry and/or the golf course maintenance career
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology or related science degree or equivalent experience
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in program development in an environmental industry/field
- Master's or PhD degree in Environmental Science, Biology or related science field valued but not required " Experience in sustainability programs and initiatives preferred
- Experience working with the Turfgrass Science Division of the Crop Science Society of America highly desired
- Ability to travel, including overnight stays, (up to 5%) for our annual Conference & Trade Show
- GCSAA will place a preference on local candidates or those willing to relocate to the Lawrence, KS area, but will consider remote applicants
- Will supervise Environmental Programs departmental staff

Compensation range is $100,000 - $140,000/annually based upon skill level and previous experience.
