JOB SUMMARY
The Director, DHIP - Safety oversees the patient safety program to meet established performance and outcome goals. This position collaborates with Duke Health leaders to design, implement and advance evidence-based and innovative safety initiatives. The Director of Safety leads efforts across Duke Health focusing on and advancing continuous improvement, continuous learning, and supporting organizational vision and goals and leads teams that will improve care delivery as evidenced by patient safety data. This position develops and oversees organizational workflow, structures, and processes targeted at eliminating patient and staff harm in the healthcare environment.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish and manage the overall patient safety program and infrastructure in the practice to support provider and clinic engagement in patient safety initiatives across all care settings and service lines.
- Provide direction to ensure that clinical services are provided in accordance with quality and safety standards established by federal and state regulatory agencies and the Joint Commission accreditation standards, including the National Patient Safety Goals.
- Lead, design and champion the DHIP efforts to develop and deploy a flexible culture of continuous safety improvement and operational excellence by utilizing a systematic and consistent framework in accordance with performance improvement methodologies.
- Initiate and oversee the development of a comprehensive safety improvement program that includes performance improvement, risk assessment, development of policy and procedures, and other related quality and safety goals that help the organization achieve compliance with regulatory compliance standards.
- In collaboration with Duke Health Compliance and Legal, evaluate and investigate all RCA, FMEA, LFD'S and other organizational risks to ensure peer protection.
- Manage the Incident Reporting (RL-6) structure and system updates which include monitoring and implementing programs to improve safety based on clinic trend data from RL-6.
- Manage the Policy System to ensure policies and procedures remain up-to date-and accurate.
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Work requires organizational, clinical, analytical, communication skills acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program nursing or other applicable healthcare-related field. A master's degree in nursing or business is strongly preferred.
- A minimum of five (5) years of healthcare management experience in healthcare or other applicable experience directly related to patient safety.
JOB HOURS
The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
