Full Job Description
The Director of Academic Quality and Effectiveness provides leadership and strategic direction for assessment, program review, and specialized programmatic accreditation. Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness, the Director plays a pivotal role in ensuring the university’s academic programs are rigorous and relevant through an evaluative culture of continuous improvement and compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategic Planning

  • In collaboration with university executives and academic leaders, develop and implement a strategic assessment framework, including annual program review, learner performance review, and assessment of key student support and success functions.
  • Oversee the operations of the assessment and specialized accreditation teams, including supervision of staff, resource allocation, and project management.
  • Champion a culture of excellence, innovation, and data-driven decision making across the university.

Assessment & Program Review

  • Provide oversight and leadership for the university’s academic assessment framework, including annual program review.
  • Collaborate with deans, academic leaders, faculty, and other stakeholders to assess student learning outcomes and program effectiveness.
  • Analyze data and identify opportunities for program improvement with an emphasis on student outcomes.
  • Promote an evaluative culture using multiple sources of qualitative and quantitative data to continuously improve the assessment framework and program review process.

Accreditation

  • Provide oversight and leadership for all programmatic accreditation and approval activities.
  • In partnership with institutional accreditation leaders, liaise with accreditation agencies and external bodies to ensure adherence to standards and requirements.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for preparing for and completing specialized accreditation reviews, including compliance between review cycles.

Collaboration, Analysis, & Reporting

  • Oversee collection, analysis, and interpretation of institutional and programmatic data to inform decision-making across the university.
  • Promote awareness and involvement of stakeholders in institutional effectiveness initiatives.
  • Promote an evaluative culture focused on continuous quality improvement, innovation, and efficiency across the university.

Job Skills:

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with faculty, students, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program evaluation, and change management.
  • Exceptional understanding of assessment methodologies and using data to drive decision-making.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Strong computer and technology skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications; comfort learning new technologies.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience including at least 5 years in a leadership role in program evaluation and data analysis, preferably in higher education.
  • Five years of experience managing and supervising staff.
  • Successful record of leading change, preferably in highly matrixed or distributed leadership environments.

Education:

  • Master’s degree in education, higher education, data analysis, or a related discipline required; doctorate preferred.
  • All degrees must be conferred from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Other:

  • Must be able to travel occasionally should a business need arise. For most roles travel would not be common. Travel may involve plane, car or metro. In accordance with ADA policies, reasonable accommodations regarding travel limitations can be provided. Travel will be more common for roles such as Account Executives (25 - 50%), senior leaders (10 – 20%) or Capella Core Faculty (5 – 10%).
  • Ability to work onsite in Corporate or Campus location (in a typical office environment) may be required based on role. If so, this would include being mobile within the office, including movement from floor-to-floor using elevators or stairs.
  • If offsite or hybrid role, must have access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.
  • Faculty and Federal Work Study roles require access to work in a setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including computer, privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.
  • This role may require lifting, however reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with our ADA policies.
  • Must be able to meet critical thinking and problem-solving aspects aligned to job duties, as well as effectively communicating with co-workers.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant. Accommodations related to schedule may be considered.

$103,900.00 - $155,900.00 - Salary
