Cloud Engineer
Perm Position
On-site in Omaha
Cloud Engineer works collaboratively to define and maintain the companies Cloud Roadmap and Architecture. As a senior technical advisor and engineer, the Cloud Engineer designs and implements cloud architecture solutions to meet the companies current and future needs, focusing on scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness.

Infrastructure Management: Manage and maintain cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure) including provisioning, monitoring, and troubleshooting to ensure high availability and performance.

Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce cloud security best practices, ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant regulations (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA). Participate in internal audits.

Automation: Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform to automate cloud infrastructure provisioning and management.

Cost Management: Monitor and optimize cloud spending, providing recommendations for cost-saving measures while maintaining performance.

Technical Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for cloud architecture, processes, and procedures.

Training and Support: Provide guidance and support to IT staff and university departments on cloud-related issues and best practices.

Disaster Recovery: Design and implement disaster recovery plans for cloud-based systems to ensure business continuity.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or in a related area and/or equivalent experience. Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
3+ years of experience in cloud architecture and engineering.
In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
Experience with cloud migration projects, including hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and services.
Strong understanding of networking, security, and identity management in a cloud environment.
Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments and integrating on-premises systems with cloud platforms.
Experience with Platform as a Service.
Experience with Serverless computing such as AWS Lambda and Microsoft Azure Functions.
Proficiency in writing Python scripts to automate cloud integrations and operational tasks.
Understanding of cloud resource tagging, monitoring, and optimization through automation.
Ability to work with JSON, YAML, and other data formats commonly used in cloud configurations.
Familiarity with tools like Github, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps for continuous integration and deployment.
Experience with Azure API Management for designing, deploying, and managing APIs in Azure.
Knowledge of virtual networks (VNets), subnets, and network security groups (NSGs).
