Summary:
The Campus Safety Officer ensures a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff; protects Hospital property and equipment from theft; maintains traffic and parking control; and presents a positive image to all who visit the Hospital.
Responsibilities:
1. Welcomes customers and visitors to the Hospital. Provides timely and accurate directions to patients and visitors. May escort individuals to their destination or vehicle as appropriate.
2. Maintains a highly visible profile through frequent patrols of the Hospital campus property to prevent, detect and address unacceptable behavior.
3. Responds to emergency or escalated situations appropriately.
4. Checks to ensure hospital doors and windows are securely locked and inspects equipment, alarms, fire extinguisher and other equipment to ensure same are properly working. Documents all checks and notifies appropriate personnel (teammates) of problems, as necessary.
5. Responds to, investigates, resolves (if possible) and documents reported security incidents/complaints. Documents reported security incidents/complaints utilizing Wayne UNC's records management system.
6. Following established procedures, physically restrains unruly patients and/or visitors and individuals posing a threat to themselves, visitors, hospital employees (teammates) and/or property. If necessary, involves police in removing visitors and provides assistance including court testimony.
7. May assist law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations through exchange of information if needed.
8. Provides assistance to the hospital campus by responding to calls including building lockdowns, financial deposits, and vehicle assistance, as well as traffic and crowd control.
9. Monitors visitor passes and badges.
10. Safeguards, inventories, issues and collects keys and security devices.

Education
• High school diploma or equivalent.
Licensure/Certification
• Certified through the State of North Carolina as an unarmed security officer.
• Certified through the International Foundation for Protection Officers as an ISOP (Initial Security Officer Program).
Experience
• At least one year with a private security agency is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to interact professionally and appropriately with teammates, providers, patients and the public.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
• Proficient with MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.
Valid NC Driver’s License: Yes
If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
