Job Summary

The Department of Health Behavior and Health Equity (HBHE) at the University of Michigan is seeking a full-time tenure track faculty member at the rank of assistant professor level.  We seek researchers with strong scholarly credentials and a record or promise of external research funding.  The faculty member will be expected to teach in our leading master and doctorate programs, and possibly in the School of Public Health's undergraduate program.  HBHE is committed to the University of Michigan Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion plan and encourages applications from faculty of color and women at all ranks.  We value diversity as a necessary part of success in all aspects of teaching, research, and leadership.  We encourage candidates to highlight their experiences with DEI in their materials.

About the Department of Health Behavior and Health Equity (HBHE):

The position will be based in the Department of Health Behavior and Health Equity (HBHE) at the University of Michigan, School of Public Health.  Driven by a shared passion for affecting lasting change, the faculty, students and staff of HBHE work in pursuit of an equitable, healthy future for all.  Turning theory and research into actionable practice, we develop interventions and innovations that promote health, prevent disease and empower people to manage chronic illness and disabilities, and facilitate collective action for social change. Together, our academic community transforms the theoretical into actionable, the science into the social, applying our knowledge to eliminate health disparities and impact lives for the better.

Required Qualifications*

Individuals will have a doctoral degree in a health-related field such as public health, social work, social policy, urban planning, community psychology or other social science-related fields.  The ideal person for the position is capable of teaching at the graduate level, has strong research skills and evidence of a research agenda that focuses on public health, healthcare, or related issues, using a health equity lens.  With a start date of August 25, the candidate must have a PhD by January 1, 2025.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
