Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Residential Education position reports to the Associate Director of Residential Education and is responsible for advancing the residential experience for all on-campus students. With particular focus on living learning communities and themed housing, this is a highly visible position to the residential community and includes educational, supervisory and administrative functions that promote student engagement, operational excellence, academic success, personal development, and a strong sense of community. The Assistant Director of Residential Education role is a full-time, twelve-month, live-in professional position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the day to day operations of all living learning communities and themed housing opportunities across the residential campus.

  • Identify additional opportunities to expand living learning communities and themed housing opportunities in partnership with the Director of Housing and Residential Education and the Associate Director of Residential Education.

  • In partnership with the Associate Director of Residential Education, ensure that a comprehensive assessment plan is implemented for all of the department’s efforts associated with themed housing and living learning communities.

  • Coordinate with relevant faculty representatives on out of classroom activities associated with living learning communities.

  • Serve as the lead staff member for all residential buildings that have themed housing and/or living learning communities, providing a high level of in person and visible presence for all students that live in these residential environments.

  • Supervise a team of Resident Directors that have living learning communities and/or themed housing opportunities in their residence halls.

  • Assist the Associate Director of Residential Education in the operational execution of the department’s efforts around curricular design.

  • Serve as a visible presence on campus, regularly attending student staff programs and college events.

  • Serve on-call and as a member of the Primary Response Team in a back-up capacity; provide appropriate follow up to student incidents; work in partnership with other on-call team members, including Public Safety and the Counseling Center in order to develop a support plan for students.

  • Serve as a student Conduct Hearing Officer for the entire student population as assigned by the Director of Community Standards; participate in regular meetings to discuss cases; adjudicate and sanction students in violation of college policies; and maintain timely and accurate judicial records.

  • Attend all departmental and divisional training sessions and workshops, as required.

  • Serve on Student Affairs division committees and represent the department through collaborative programs and events.

  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s Degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Education or related field required.

  • Excellent administrative, as well as written and oral communication skills are required.

  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills.

  • Creativity, self-motivation, and ability to work in groups as well as independently strongly preferred.

  • Ability to manage projects, delegate tasks, and provide excellent customer service required.
