The Department of Pathology at Duke University Medical Center is seeking a full-time faculty member in the role of Assistant Director of Clinical Microbiology for Duke University Health System Clinical Laboratories and Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology. The individual will serve as Director of Mycobacteriology and Assistant Director of Molecular Microbiology, and will join the faculty of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory and ACGME-accredited Medical Microbiology Fellowship training program to advance the clinical, research, and educational missions of the department.
Our health system laboratories are College of American Pathologist (CAP) accredited, CLIA certified, state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary labs that provide clinical services to Duke University Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital, Duke Raleigh Hospital, and our Duke Primary Care and hospital-based clinics. Duke Health has more than 290 locations providing quality health services across the entire continuum of care for our community. Duke also serves as a large tertiary care center with world renowned expertise in transplant, oncology and cardiac care. Each year, our providers touch the lives of over 400,000 patients in our hospitals and hospital-based clinics and over twice as many in our primary care and outpatient diagnostic clinics. For these patients, our laboratories perform over 10 million tests/year across all laboratory disciplines in 42 different work centers located throughout the health system.
This is a non-tenure track position with academic rank and salary based on experience. The candidate must have an M.D., Ph.D., or M.D. / Ph.D, and be fellowship trained (ABP MM or ASM CPEP) and board-certified or board-eligible in Medical Microbiology by either the American Board of Pathology or American Board of Medical Microbiology. Graduating fellows or early career candidates are encouraged to apply.
Expertise or interest in Mycobacteriology is preferred. Background in Mycobacterial susceptibility, laboratory developed molecular diagnostics, and/or next generation sequencing are particularly sought. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of academic achievement through independent or collaborative research and scholarly publications. Experience with clinical trials and clinical / translational research is beneficial.
